Called to Serve

in the Phillipines Iloilo Mission. Elder Jenkins leaves for the MTC on August 4th. It was actually just announced this February that his mission would be created from the split of an existing mission. So, his mission president, who is only 36 years old, will complete the MTC in July. Malcolm will be in the MTC for eight weeks and learn to speak Tagalog.
Malcolm's friend Braxton, in the blue plaid, leaves the same day for the Phillipines Manila Mission. They will both be speaking the same language so they are pretty excited to be entering the MTC the same day.
It was a great night. Not having brothers this is something I have missed out on experiencing. I am so excited for Malcolm to go out and serve.

Reel Mower

Anyone ever heard of it? When Matt first told me, I thought he meant a "real" mower, maybe meaning not a push mower, but no "R-E-E-L." We have had the worst luck with lawn mowers in the last year. Our landlords have one here and the first time Matt used it, the wheel broke. So, we took my parents old one. We used it a few times and it died. We then took Mark's old one. It lasted us the remainder of last year. A few weeks ago Matt pulled out the mower and couldn't get it to start. He has tried multiple times, even sliced his finger almost down to the bone trying to start the stupid mower. Finally, he gave up. It was time to get our fourth lawn mower within one year. We went into Lowe's yesterday to see what we could find. He found this wonderful reel mower. Like I said I had never even heard of it. There is no motor, it just spins as you push it, so you have to go fast enough to keep up the RPMs. It is about as basic of a lawn mower as you can possibly get. "Just like Aunt Rita had. If our lawn breaks this we have major issues." So, we got home last night about 10:00 and Matt had to go try it out. No mad neighbors because there is no motor, he can mow anytime he gets the urge. He even has his head lamp to help him out. I thought he was crazy for buying it. It seems like a lot of extra work, but he is quite excited.

So random, we went out back to try out the new mower and there was a man in our neighbors backyard with a metal detector. There is no one living in the house right now, so Matt went back and talked to him for a little bit. He said he was doing some plumbing work on the house and he just comes in the back to metal detect for a hobby. Anyone else think it is a little odd that at 10:00 pm there is a man in the back yard of a house he doesn't know the people, just did a little plubming work? Remind me never to hire that guy.

Antelope Island

The Saturday before Easter the Strongs and Jenkins always get together at Antelope Island. Nelson cooks dutch oven, we fly kites, and Marianne has a huge Easter egg hunt for the kids. Before last year I couldn't remember the last time I had been out there, but I now love this annual tradition.
I took this picture of the three of us, but I obviously didn't do a very good job. Sorry Maddi.

Makenna slept most of the day, but she was sure happy when she woke up.

It was way cold to start out, but the kids didn't seem to mind too much. The wind was perfect for kite flying. I definitely preferred when the wind stop, it made a huge difference in the temperature.
This was my very favorite picture. Morgan was so happy her kite was in the air.
All the Jenkins girls.
