He's Walking

Corbin took his first steps about two months ago, but when I got home from camp, he was full out walking. Our house is a little small for him to show off how well he can walk because it seems there is always a wall within reach. But spending the week at Grandma Jenkins did the trick. He looks so grown up when he walks all over the place.

Girls Camp

I loved Girls Camp this year. It was definitely an adjustment trying to be the responsible fun leader instead of one of the youth, but I think I pulled it off pretty good. All of our young women leaders are under the age of 25 so even the leader tent was pretty fun.

It was stake camp, which I am not a big fan of, but we all had a great time. I can't believe how unprepared I was for camping though. I usually think through things a little better than I did this year. It was so freezing cold! I only had one hoody and no long sleeve shirts. Almost all of my girls offered me some of their clothes because I was shaking it was so cold.

I love these girls!

The Party

It's official, he's one! And we celebrated with a bang!

We had both families over (that is a lot of people) and had a big party. It was the party of the year. The party started with "the chase," a favorite past time of all the kids. Then we had a pinata, or maybe two. Matt and I tried to make our own pinata. We did the first layer and the balloon expanded and cracked the paper mache. We did the second layer and the pinata shriveled like a raisin. For the third layer, we blew up a new balloon inside the pinata to expand the raisin. It worked pretty good until Matt wanted it to dry faster and put the pinata in the oven. After we heard a big boom, we realized our pinata was a complete loss. So we went to Zurchers and bought an orka pinata for $8.97. Why didn't we do that in the first place?
Well, Matt still wanted to use our pinata so he taped it all up and filled it will broccoli as a fun surprise. The kids didn't appreciate it as much as the adults I don't think. Jed Hurd told Matt, "I like broccoli, but that isn't even good broccoli!" Ha, love it!

After the broccoli tease, we brought out the real pinata, full of candy.

Matt decided on the Killer Whale pinata, so I decided it was an ocean theme. I made a turtle birthday cake.

Present time was slightly crazy with 15 children running around and swarming Corbin, but super entertaining. After each present we moved Corbin to a new location.

I think the car Matt and I gave him might be his favorite!

Oh, and we can't forget the confetti poppers!

Very memorable and enjoyable 1st Birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CORBIN!

Why do children hate sleep?

Or is it just my child?

Okay, Corbin is going to be one in five days. Is it really so much to ask to be able to sleep through the night consistently? I knew my child hated to sleep from the time I brought him home from the hospital. He despises sleep, he thinks he is going to miss out on all the "important" things going on. I have tried letting him scream, I have tried the sleep, eat, play, sleep schedule, I have kept him up later, put him down earlier, and nothing works! The worst part about it is when Corbin wakes up in the middle of the night, or at 10 or 11 at night, he is up to play. Once he wakes up, he is up for about two hours and then he will go back to sleep. Two nights ago he went down at seven woke up at 9:30. Played until 11:15 and then slept until 6:30. Can I say I was already sick of him by 7 am! I love him to death, but I just want him to sleep through the night.
