Comp Season

Dance competition season started for Maggie last weekend. The competitions look a little different this year of course, but it was actually really fun to be back at it. Her team did really well too. They are dancing to Diamonds are a girl's best friend, it took 2nd. Better together got a white diamond ranking, and their production took either first or second (we had conflicting opinions on that one.) Maggie sure loves competitions. She has another one this weekend.

Robotics

Corbin's team did so well at Robotics this year. They took first at one competition and second at another. They also got the Team Work and Excellence awards. They qualified for the state tournament which will be in April. I never actually got to watch him because spectators were not allowed at the matches. I am not sure if I will be able to get him to do it again next year, but I think it has been a good thing to be involved in.

Haircut

Claire always asks for a haircut when anyone else is getting one. Especially the boys because she sees be cut their hair. The other day she was asking and I had been debating going short for a while, so I finally just did it. I took her to Great Clips that morning and had it all chopped off. I was super sad at first. She had such long hair! It has definitely grown on me though. I think it is super cute. I really love that I don't have to fight her to do it or comb it. I wash it and don't touch it again for three days at least. It was nice to take off all the weird curly baby hair too. Now when it grows out it will all be nice and even.

Kent's ER visit

On February 13th Matt, Corbin, Maggie, and Claire went with Mark to look at some properties in Idaho. So it was just Van, Kent, and me at home for the day. About 15 minutes after they left Kent was laying on the floor playing with Van and randomly started screaming that his neck hurt. He laid on the floor for the next five hours without moving at all. I kept thinking he kinked it somehow and it would get better as the day wore on. He was fine as long as he didn't move at all. He screamed when I put a pillow under his head to make him more comfortable. I just let him lay in the middle of the floor. He watched a few shows with the laptop placed where he could see it without moving and he listened to a few audio books. Finally Matt got home and lifted him into the bathroom. He was screaming. Matt thought the same thing as me that it would get better on its own. He even tried to move Kent's head and Kent was hysterical. Austin and Shawnee got to our house the exact same time as Matt. So Matt moved Kent to our bed. It was sad that Kent missed out playing with Jud and Ike. I think that is when I thought something was really wrong. When he stayed on my bed the whole time the boys ran around playing.

It didn't get any better. Any time Kent would move he would scream. He was still in my bed and any time I moved he would whimper. Matt took him into the Urgent Care clinic on Sunday morning. He was in so much pain moving around that he started throwing up. As soon as Matt carried him inside, the Urgent Care said they wouldn't see him and to head to the ER.  So Matt took him to the Emergency Room. There they started him on fluids because he was a little dehydrated and a form of ibuprofen for pain. As soon as the ibuprofen started working Kent started to improve.

It ended up being a swollen lymph node that caused torticollis. Most likely caused from his body fighting off a virus. I had given him tylenol and it didn't do anything. I didn't even think about ibuprofen instead. The ibuprofen reduced the swelling and he was fine. A little sore, but otherwise fine. He was home in enough time to go to Sunday dinner. It was cute to see how worried his siblings were while Kent was at the hospital. Maggie and Corbin both made him free game passes and gave them to him when he came home. It was a crazy couple of days, and I am super glad it wasn't anything too serious.
