Back in May, Malcolm, Meri, and Michelle all signed up for the Top of Utah Half Marathon. I talked Erin into running it with me and we both signed up. Two weeks later I got a stress fracture and was told not to run for 8-12 weeks. The half was 12 weeks away so I wasn't going to be able to run it.
The night before the half, Michelle and Meri talked me into walking it with Michelle, because she hadn't trained either. It seemed crazy, but Saturday morning Michelle and I started jogging a half marathon with the 2:30 pace runner. We were just going to go as long as we could and then walk the rest. We made it 8 1/2 miles before I started to walk for a bit. The rest was a walk/jog, but I finished in 2 hours and 33 minutes! I was so proud of my time since I did not train at all. I could definitely feel that I hadn't trained in my knees and muscles, but it was totally worth it! I had so much fun. I want to do another one that I can actually train for.
I have never ran a half before (or even more than six miles) so it was a way long distance for me. But still the worst part of it was being FREEZING cold for an hour and a half at the start line! If I do it again I will be better prepared with more clothes to keep me warm in the morning.
